Exercise and Fitness

To keep yourself in top physical shape, you need to get plenty of exercise and fitness. At a bare minimum, most experts recommend at least 30 minutes a day of moderate exercise, which includes walking or working in your yard or garden. However, many experts recommend more vigorous exercise, especially if you are younger and in good health. This can mean running, biking, swimming or team sports. If sports are not your thing, you hate running, can`t swim and don`t own a bike, you might want to incorporate a trampoline into your exercise and fitness.

You might think of a trampoline as something kids like to goof around on in the back yard, but a trampoline can actually be a very good source of exercise. For one thing, jumping on a trampoline is harder than it looks. If you weigh roughly 200 pounds, you will burn about 320 calories in an hour. That`s not a lot (it`s comparable to working in your yard or garden), but trampoline exercise offers other benefits beyond burning calories.

Low Impact

Trampoline exercise is a lot easier on your joints than running or some team sports. Studies have shown that working out on the trampoline reduces the impact on your joints as much as 40 percent compared to some other exercises, which allows you to exercise harder and recover faster.

Improves your balance

Have you ever tried to just stand still on a trampoline? It`s not that easy. Now think about how difficult it is to keep your balance when you are jumping or running on the treadmill. Jumping on a trampoline requires you to constantly use the stabilizing muscles in your legs to keep your balance.

There are a number of exercises you can do on a trampoline other than just bouncing up and down. For example, running on a treadmill will give you more of a cardio workout than just bouncing while putting less stress on your body than regular running would. You can do jumping jacks on a trampoline, leg raises and just about any other exercise you would do while standing on solid ground. The difference is that by doing them on a treadmill, you are going to add the elements of strengthening and balance. If you want to make your workout about bouncing on the treadmill, you can also add elements to spice up that routine. For instance, you can add twists, tucks and somersaults to your bouncing routine.

One of the great things about trampoline exercise is that it`s fun. If it wasn`t, you wouldn`t see all those kids – and adults – jumping around on treadmills in people`s yards. The fact that it`s fun may make it more appealing to people who aren`t into sports and couldn`t imagine themselves ever setting foot in a gym.

Of course, to get started with trampoline exercise, you need a trampoline. You don`t have to get a huge one like the ones you see in people`s backyards. There are various sizes of trampolines, including mini ones you can use in your home. To see a variety of trampolines, please click here
